Road Tripping with TG Wolff

One of the best parts of author life is meeting and supporting other authors. It’s always awesome to find people from your tribe who don’t glaze over as you share your latest plot twist idea or editing stumbling blocks. So naturally, when TG Wolff called and said she was doing a reading down in Indianapolis this month to promote her thriller EXACTING JUSTICE, I said count me in.

Not only does TG’s writing totally rock, she’s also an awesome road trip buddy. 😉

Our destination this past week was to an indie bookstore off Massachusetts Avenue called Indy Reads Books, where she and several other authors would be reading excerpts for the Mystery Writers of America Midwest Multi-State “Murder at the Mic” night. And oh, what an awesome place! I fell in love with the cozy bookstore the second I stepped inside, and loved it that much more when I learned it’s a not-for-profit new and used bookstore whose proceeds all feed back into Indy’s adult literacy programs. Plus, the holiday decorations added an extra dose of fun. If you’re ever in the area, I highly encourage you to stop by 911 Massachusetts Avenue!

Though I’d never been to a reading event quite like this before, I have to say it was a blast. Hearing excerpts from all these different books was like getting to “taste test” half a dozen or so novels and stories. Each author had their own style, their tales each unique. And of course, once the pressure to read was off, there were smiles all around.

Seriously, if you get a chance to attend a multi-author readings event like this, I highly recommend it. And I know the authors would appreciate you coming out to support them, more than you know. (Hmm…come to think of it, there might just be an opportunity in Fort Wayne coming up over the holidays for such an event. Stay tuned… )

Great job, everyone, and bravo for being brave enough to write the words you love, and then taking the stage last week and sharing them with us. Keep writing, keep dreaming, and keep inspiring us all.

Until next time,

What Exactly is Exacting?

Many moons ago–8, actually, if memory serves–I went on a daycare field trip with a handful of other crazy enthusiastic parents. Our destination? The Indianapolis Children’s Museum. After more hours of chasing after rambunctious toddlers than my weary brain could count, myself and another mom who’d carpooled together loaded our kiddos in the car and headed for home. Once we’d found our way out of Indy (hey, TG–I bet you don’t get lost down there so much anymore lol) we started talking books. And writing.

And wouldn’t you know it, we both loved to write.

The trip home went way faster than the trip to Indy, TG and I volleying back and forth about our works in progress, my book I was pitching to publishers, her several books that she’d written for pleasure. By the time we made it back into town, we’d become good friends and steadfast writing buddies.

Fast forward several years to where both of us had a few published books under our belts. TG, whom you may have come to know as Anita DeVito, was working on a story that’d clawed its way into her psyche and refused to let go. It had an awesome name, a cool reference to some psychological stuff I was trying to wrap my head around, and her same wit and fantastic collection of supporting characters. What it didn’t have was a romance focus. So what did TG aka Anita do, being her usual self?

She wrote it anyway.

After countless walks together, chatting it up about plot and character behavior, about how the story could end (or not), about how the sequel might go (or not), about how many books there may be in this series (or not), well, there’s a lot I’m not at liberty to tell you. Lol! However, what I can say is this: TG aka Anita is a passionate, brilliant writer who puts her very soul into each and every book. She’s also one of my favorite authors to read. Romance or Thriller, her voice is there, though it may have a darker hue to it in some stories than others.

So if you’re looking for something different. Something…fresh and maybe a little “other side of the tracks”, do yourself a favor and check out TG Wolff‘s newly released book EXACTING JUSTICE. It may be her first thriller-type crime novel, but I’m certain it won’t be her last.

How do I know this? I’ve already read the next one…and it’s one helluva ride too.

As for EXACTING’s original title, well, you’ll have to ask TG about that. What happens on author walks, stays on author walks. 😉

Happy reading, everyone.

In the war on drugs, a deadly new front has opened…

An unknown killer is waging a war on drugs. The murders are horrendous but with a silver lining—now stop signs are the only objects lingering on corners in the city’s toughest neighborhoods. Half the city calls for the police to end the killer’s reign. The other half cheers the killer on, denouncing the tactics but celebrating the progress police haven’t been able to achieve.

The gritty details of Cleveland’s drug underworld are nothing new to Homicide Detective Jesus De La Cruz. Two years earlier, Cruz worked undercover narcotics and was poised for a promotion that would have placed him in a coveted position within the drug organization. The deal went bad. Now he has a new face, a new job, and a new case.

The killer moves through the streets with impunity, identity still unknown. Demands for progress from his superiors, accumulated grief of the victim’s relatives, growing pressure from the public, and elevated stress from his family quietly pull Cruz apart. With no out, the detective moves all in, putting his own head on the line to bait a killer.

Cover Fun with Jen Colly

Good morning, everyone! Indiana Wonderer has been having a bit of book-sharing fun lately, and today is no exception. With release of book two in her Cities Below series only a month away, my Buckeye neighbor Jen Colly decided to do a double cover reveal. Or, a re-reveal and a new reveal. Or…well, just read on and you’ll get the gist of it. 😉

First…a new look for book 1 (the re-reveal):

Here’s the blurb, for all of you who are behind and will be running out to one-click this as soon as you’re done reading this post:

Demons have returned, a vengeful enemy waiting to strike. Soren and Faith must find a way to survive the evil and darkness.

Faith’s spur of the moment vacation, meant to free her and boost her spirits, has left her lost on the streets of Paris. And apparently, Paris is populated with something more than just humans. Vampires, suave, seductive and oh so sexy, and one such warrior vampire has set his sights on her.

When Soren hears Faith’s terrified screams, he rushes in and saves her life without considering the consequences. Two problems: one, she’s a human and clearly aware of his vampire qualities, and two, the men who attacked her were not men at all, but demons. Their target, his beloved underground city of Balinese. He can never let Faith go home again, but can she learn to love his people. . .love him?

Mmm, I so enjoyed this book. A nice, fresh take on vampires. If you’re interested in grabbing a copy, click here. And now…a first glance at BENEATH THE NIGHT, The Cities Below book 3, set to release next April:

Gorgeous isn’t it? Here’s the blurb:

Sometimes survival means surrendering everything . . .

Lord Navarre Casteel wakes from a long sleep to find the vampire city he rules forever changed and his future in the hands of a mysterious beauty who offers her life for his. Fiery-haired Cat survives his feeding, fueling Navarre’s body and mind—as well as his suspicion that she is one of the Forbidden—a lethal mix of vampire and human blood. Yet that doesn’t stop the throb of Navarre’s desire, the feeling that she is destined to be his mate, to hell with consequences. . . .

A solitary fighter sworn to protect the children in her charge, Cat never expects to feel so much for Navarre in the face of his savage feeding. Which is why his offer of protection is nearly her undoing. For how can she let down her guard when she has always walked alone? But Cat has never faced an enemy like the one she faces now, never felt such a powerful need to surrender to the force of love . . .

Awesome, huh? And don’t forget to keep watch for book 2, BOUND, set to release 1/31/2017!

So what do you think? Ready to get your vamp on? 😉

Anita’s New Release: Lost in Shadows

Happy Monday, everyone! I am crazy excited to share that my dear friend Anita DeVito has the second in her romantic suspense LOST series out today from Entangled–LOST IN SHADOWS. Congratulations, Anita!

This book is chock full of alpha hero meets smart but perhaps a bit socially awkward heroine moments. And oh, do their encounters get heated! Sharp wit and twisty-turvey plots are Anita’s specialty, so be sure and grab this book today!

Here’s the blurb:

Sometimes a man fights for love…sometimes love fights for him.

Private security entrepreneur Jeb McCormick is in over his head with his latest client. Not only is the painfully shy woman he’s meant to be protecting a total knock-out, she’s also his former Army buddy’s sister. Helping her find the reason why anyone would ransack her house is demanding enough, but keeping his hands off her is proving to be the real challenge.

Carolina Walker wants a quiet life, thank you very much. She left intrigue and deception behind in Washington D.C., never expecting it to follow her home to Bowling Green, Kentucky. When events happen that can’t be explained away, help arrives in the form of the very attractive and muscular Jebediah McCormick. But as the tension escalates between Jeb and Carolina, so does the danger facing them…

Sounds amazing, doesn’t it?  Mmm, Jeb. Here he gets his own story after playing one of the awesome supporting characters alongside Katie and Butch McCormick in book 1 of this series, LOST IN TENNESSEE. If you missed it, no worries – each book is written as a standalone novel. Though, as a huge fan of this series, I suggest you read them both…and stay tuned for book 3, coming in 2017!

Gemma’s Muse is Feeling Greedy

Happy Hump Day, everyone! It’s been a while since I’d blogged, and what better reason for putting one together than to announce a new book by one of my favorite chicks? So today I’m sharing about Gemma Brocato’s latest release GREED, the third book in her Goddesses of Delphi paranormal romance series.
Here’s the blurb:

One man, one Muse. One romance to save the world.

Financial reporter, Polly Thanos, Muse of Hymns, is certain the proposed merger between Delphi’s two largest firms spells doom for mankind. Eos Corporation’s long-time goal—to provide scientific and philanthropic solutions to the benefit of mortals— is lost in the quest for profits. Her challenge starts with an impossible task—inspire one mortal skeptic to believe in the magic of what if.

Scientist Ian Sommers is researching a healthier way of life for impoverished people. When his boss orders him to pursue a chemical, rather than organic solution, Ian suspects the pursuit of the almighty dollar will lead to delivering poison to the unsuspecting population.

In protest, Ian’s prepared to quit his job. But he’s shocked to discover the woman he’s falling for is an immortal tasked with stopping corporate avarice. As their attraction grows, so does the risk to them and to all humans. Without Ian’s help and his love, Polly’s faces a world not safe from the by-products of greed—death and disease.

Sounds like a fresh, fun twist on the norm, doesn’t it?  Gemma was gracious enough to share her Rafflecopter giveaway with us, as well as a great excerpt below. So be sure to enter for your chance to win a Kindle Fire (sorry, U.S. residents only) and then read on to enjoy a sneak peek at GREED.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph!

What the hell prompted him to tell Polly Thanos he’d talk dirty to her? The offer just spewed out of his mouth without a wait-a-damn-minute thought. Not thinking with the right head is the only reason he could come up with. He’d blame the long stretch of skin bared by her short shorts as the culprit in his momentary loss of reason.

He’d probably just made her ridiculously uncomfortable. For months, he’d been attracted to her without acting on it. He hadn’t been into anyone that way for years. Since his wife dumped him for a golf professional. After she’d carried on a secret affair with the son of a bitch throughout most of their married life. Within a month of their honeymoon, Marcia had betrayed him.

Since then, he’d guarded his heart. Every single one of his relationships since the divorce were casual, shallow affairs. His attraction to Polly, the woman he’d always counted as a friend, had been slowly developing, evolving to something more.  Lately, every time they were together with a group of their friends, he’d wanted to ask her out and hadn’t. He’d lay that fault directly at his ex’s door. She’d ruined his ability to believe anyone would remain faithful to him.

But hand to heart, right this moment he wanted to whisper to Polly about how much she turned him on. He fought the overwhelming urge to stroke his tongue around the delicate shell of her ear, feast on her lobe. Why’d he pick this particular event, a freaking barbecue with kids running around, to come on to her?

Most likely it was because her legs were so long and her butt looked amazing in those tiny shorts she wore. Or the way the mahogany-red top resembled a hot flame and outlined her perfect breasts. He knew her skin would be like silk when he cupped one of the perky apple-shaped mounds. Whoa! When might be jumping the gun. Better to think in terms of if…if he got an opportunity to touch her boobs. Jesus, he was salivating like a teenage boy who’d discovered his dad’s stash of Maxim magazines.

She caught up to him with her long-legged stride, playfully bumped him with her shoulder. “Hurry up, slow poke.” She laughed and then raced ahead to the dock. Beautiful strawberry blond hair caught in a ponytail bounced playfully between her shoulder blades as she ran.

Running wasn’t exactly comfortable with his dick stiff as a board in his pants. But he sucked it up and breathed through the discomfort to chase after her. By the time they pounded across the wooden slats of the pier, his cock returned to only half aroused and they both laughed breathlessly.

“Hop in. I’ll untie the boat and push us off.” He held her hand as she scampered down to the seat.

She laughed again as the craft wobbled like a tipsy ballerina. The sound hit him right in the libido, sending new shards of lust through his system. Desperate to hide his physical reaction to the happy sound, he bent and concentrated on untying the mooring line. He tossed the rope to the floor of the rocking vessel and dropped in.

Polly steadied him with a hand on his waist as he stood and pushed them away from the dock. The heat of her palm seeped through the cotton of his T-shirt, branding his skin. His dick started its happy dance again. He recited the periodic table of elements alphabetically in his head, hoping to combat his intense physical reaction to her touch.

The boat rocked again as he plopped down next to her and put his feet on the pedals. He slouched low, rocking back on his tailbone—his hands folded discreetly over his lap, and started the boat in motion. Polly leaned back, kicked off her flip-flops and stretched her legs over the gunwale. She shifted and freed her ponytail, which had been trapped between the bench and her back. The delicate scent of almonds and apples wafted from her hair as she flicked it against his shoulder.

“Are you going to help me paddle?” he asked as she lounged against the padded bench.

She sent him a mischievous smirk. “You seem to have it under control.”

“We’d cover more water if we work together.”

“If I help we’ll make it around the lake too quickly.”

“So?” He broke a sweat as he labored over the pedals.

“Less time for us to talk shop. Or” —she bit her lower lip— “for you to talk dirty to me.”

gemmaAbout the Author:

Gemma’s favorite desk accessories for many years were a circular wooden token, better known as a ’round tuit,’ and a slip of paper from a fortune cookie proclaiming her a lover of words; some day she’d write a book. All it took was a transfer to the United Kingdom, the lovely English springtime, and a huge dose of homesickness to write her first novel. Once it was completed and sent off with a kiss, even the rejections addressed to ‘Dear Author’ were gratifying.

After returning to America, she spent a number of years as a copywriter, dedicating her skills to making insurance and the agents who sell them sound sexy. Eventually, her full-time job as a writer interfered with her desire to be a writer full-time and she left the world of financial products behind to pursue a vocation as a romance author.

Cover Reveal Spotlight: BOUND by Jen Colly

Our slow burn of fun this week continues with a cover reveal for BOUND, Jen Colly’s second book in The Cities Below series. I loved book 1 – such a fun, fresh twist on the land of vampires – and have been patiently waiting for the release of book 2. Thankfully, my wait is nearly over as BOUND is set to release January 31, 2017.

The streets are a battleground for humans, vampires, and demons alike—where survival is a skill, love is a weapon, and the most dangerous act is to care for another . . .

Keir is an assassin devoted to Lady Arianne, the last of her royal bloodline. He is sworn to protect her, and that means eliminating any threat to her life. But while on a mission, he is set upon by a pack of demons, barely escaping with his life.

Cleopatra lives by a set of rules so rigid she no longer knows her true self. But her kind and loving nature resurfaces when she finds a man, bloodied and dying. Moved to help him, she risks her future and her life to save a stranger far below her aristocratic station.

Their attraction to each other is as powerful as it is forbidden. But even as their love grows, Keir keeps his true identity a secret—and this lie is not the only threat to their love . . . or their lives.

Dragon In the Blood (Vale of Stars, Book 2)

by Juliette Cross

Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy Romance

Cover Artist: Kanaxa

Date of Publication: 7/26/2016

Word Count: 72,000

Book Description:

When desire bites, there’s no patience for a slow burn.

While all seems quiet in Gladium Province, the Morgon Guard—the global justice force for the dragon hybrid race—knows their enemy is rebuilding its forces in the underground.

Valla Moonring, an assassin for the Order of the Morgon Guard, is ordered on a mission into the Wastelands of Aria—a formidable, icy wilderness fraught with all manner of dangers, including outlaws, deadly weather, and big-game predators.

To her great distaste, she’s partnered with a Nightwing Security operative, Conn Rowanflame, a Morgon with the aggravating ability to get under her skin. While she takes her mission seriously, Conn’s confident charm throws her off balance, a dangerous place to be in conditions like these. Especially when cold nights require close contact.

Sensual attraction binds them ever closer, igniting a passion of unexpected force—the soulfire. But when the hunters become the hunted, their bond could prove perilous. Even fatal…

Conn slowed his descent as treetops came into view beyond the fading mist, which had thinned to nearly nothing in the past hour. Whipping open my wings, I landed softly on the hard ground among a grove of evergolds. Even in this frozen tundra, the giants famous for their flora of fire-gold leaves grew tall and thick-branched in abundance. I lifted my visor to a brilliant burst of color that contrasted against the brown earth and snow-swept embankments.

Bowen landed quietly behind me. “How about some lunch before we set out on foot?” He removed and tucked away his visor and unpacked his crossbow from its sheath on his back for the first time on this journey.

“Let’s get into the cover of trees,” said Conn, moving along the natural path. “And lunch sounds perfect.”

“Benta’s breakfast wasn’t enough for you?” I asked, meeting his long stride.

“I always have an appetite, sweetheart.”

“While you two continue flirting, I’ll find some small game nearby. Set up the hotpad over near that big evergold.”

Without a sound, Bowen disappeared into the trees.

“Flirting?” I scoffed. “I wasn’t flirting.”

“I was.” Conn grinned.

“Stop it.”

“I haven’t even gotten started yet.”

“You’re infuriating.”

“So you’ve said before.”

“Listen—” I put up both gloved hands to stop his snarky banter for just one second. “I’m glad we’re finally alone.”

“Me, too.” His lopsided grin made my heart flutter.

Exhaling a frustrated sigh, I stopped under a thick oak with ample coverage from above and unhooked my chest pack before dropping it to the ground. “There’s something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about…about last night.”

“Mmm. Last night.”

He removed his own pack and gloves, then pulled out the small, electronic hotpad. After opening the tripod that kept it off the ground, he turned it on. Gisa ordered us to use the hotpad instead of fire when we were in the open to avoid alerting predators or criminals to our presence.

Conn stood and propped his hands low on his hips. “Would you like a second round?”

“No…no.” I cleared my throat and shook my head, my ponytail sliding on the smooth leather of my jacket. “Actually, that should never have happened. I shouldn’t have let that happen. But I—”

“Couldn’t resist,” he finished, a devilish smile brimming his beautiful face. “It’s okay. It happens a lot.”

“You’re such an ass.” I rolled my eyes. “I could’ve resisted.”

“Could you?”

He broke his rigid stance and sauntered closer, a feral glimmer in his gaze. By instinct, I backed up a step, my wings scraping the rough bark of the evergold behind me. He moved into my personal space.

“What are you doing?” I asked, heart hammering.

He flattened one hand against the tree above my head, his finger grazing the arch of my wing. I shivered.

“Are you sure you could resist?”

I cleared my throat. “Of course,” I said, trying to sound confident, but my voice betrayed me and broke.

“Well…I couldn’t.” He brushed the back of his knuckles along my jaw. I held still, caught.

“Actually, I want to taste you again. Right now.”

Even stone-cold sober, I felt drunk from a single touch, longing to fall back into his arms and let him show me what his hazel-gold eyes promised without a word.

He leaned close, his warm breath grazing my ear.  “Let me taste you again, Valla.”

I planted my hands on his chest, wishing there weren’t the layers of thermal suit and leather between my palms and his rock-hard chest.

He nuzzled the shell of my ear with his nose, then his lips. “Let me.”

His darkened voice pleaded and demanded at the same time, spreading warmth between my legs. What had gotten into me? I pushed him out of my way and stormed toward a densely wooded area.

“Where are you going?” he laughed. “Running away?”

“I’ve gotta go to the bathroom,” I yelled over my shoulder.

“Not by yourself, you’re not.” His footsteps crunched across the thin blanket of snow and leaves behind me.

I whirled, heat burning up my neck, now from anger not lust. “Whoa, there, big boy.” I threw up a hand, halting him several feet away. “Look. You’re not my keeper. And just because we shared one kiss doesn’t mean anything. I’m going to relieve myself by myself. Do you understand?”

His wings twitched at his back. Agitated. Whatever.

“And stop scowling at me,” I called back as I spun and trekked off the path into the brush.

Book Description:

The only hope of saving their race is to surrender their hearts.

For a man of action, it’s the worst kind of agony. Until he encounters a sexy librarian who bears the fated prophecy’s mark. A mark no human should possess.

Tortured by her mixed heritage, Trinity Blair has enjoyed little human touch in her life, let alone intimacy. Even the most innocent contact fills her mind with a person’s deepest, darkest secrets—except for Ramsay. Her immunity to his thoughts sparks a fragile hope that she might finally experience the passion of her Dark Spiritu brethren…unless he’s the dangerous crossroads her father predicted.

When knowledge of Eden goes viral in the human realm, Trinity is Ramsay’s only hope for quelling mass panic. Can he risk revealing the secrets of his race to the guileless ray of sunshine? Or is she the unknown source of Eden’s destruction?

Trinity dropped to her knees beside Ramsay and checked the pulse at his neck. Smooth and strong, unlike the frantic flutter of her own heart.

She smoothed a wayward strand of dark hair off his handsome face. Not just any man could pull off long hair without coming off girly, but this guy did it easily. Kind of a sexy barbarian who’d traded his leather armor for a skin-hugging T-shirt and jeans.

Ramsay’s giant friend crouched opposite her and gripped his shoulder. What was his name? John? No. Jagger. That was it. Golden hair and eyes to match—heck the guy looked like he’d been created by Midas. “What happened?”

“I don’t know.” She checked the back of Ramsay’s head. No blood, but she’d bet he’d sport a nasty goose egg come morning. God, his hair felt sinful. Thick and smooth. “He grabbed my hand and pulled me up. The next thing I knew, his eyes rolled back and he fell.”

Jagger lifted Ramsay’s head, clasped it at the back, and gripped his chin with the other. He scowled down at his friend…or was he concentrating?

“I tried to break his fall, but he’s, well…” She motioned toward Jagger’s torso. “Huge, like you.”

Ramsay’s eyes popped open with a shake of his head.

Jagger eased back on his heels and smiled. “You realize you passing out when you’re coming onto a woman is gonna make for killer blackmail.”

Ramsay studied his friend, then her, then her hand on his chest.

Her hand. On his chest. Not just touching him, but stroking. Small, comforting motions against hard, hot muscle.

Holy crap. She jerked her hand away and stood so fast, she nearly clattered onto the coffee table behind her.

Not one vision. Not before or after his fall. That alone should be enough to crow and dance around for days, but mixed with a good solid feel of those muscles, all she could think about was adding both hands to the mix—minus his T-shirt.

Ramsay stood and narrowed his eyes.

Prey. Beneath his stare, she felt like a gazelle entranced by a black panther.

Jagger stepped closer to him, as though he meant to intercept. “You want to tell me what’s going on?”

The question snapped Ramsay’s focus. “Must’ve been the trip here. My head went fuzzy and that’s all I remember.”

Odd. His words made sense, but the tone and the way he eyeballed his friend made it sound like code for something else.

Jagger’s gaze raked her head to toe before he nodded and ambled back to his seat.

Ramsay prowled closer, not quite as frightening as seconds before, but still on edge. Predatory. He offered his hand. “Let’s try that again. I’m Ramsay.”

Eye candy. The guy was pure unadulterated, grade-A eye candy. She sucked with height estimations, but her lips were on a direct line with the rock hard pecs she’d shamelessly fondled. And there were scattered light streaks in his dark hair. Not much. Only enough to imply her panther spent time lazing in the sun.

His voice rumbled, even more tempting than the rest of him. “I can wait all night.” He held his outstretched hand steady, tanned skin tempting her as strongly as his words. Definitely a sun-prone panther.

She’d touched him twice already. Surely another wouldn’t hurt. “Trinity Blair.”

Their palms met, his hand encompassing hers in a delicious heat that radiated out in all directions and made her want to snuggle up so tight no space was left between them. The world stopped. The bar ceased to exist. No images. No fearsome emotions. Just perfect, addictive touch.

Tessa’s voice cut through the cocoon of her thoughts. “Oh, my God. Did you just touch him?”

Trinity snatched her hand away and stepped back.

“Well, well, well,” Naomi’s sultry voice sounded from the loveseat as she reclined back and draped one arm along the cushions. “This is turning into an interesting night.”

Margo stood, jerked her head at Naomi to move, and motioned at Ramsay to sit. “Why don’t you two take a load off? Me and Naomi are headed to the bar. Anyone want refills?”

Oh, boy. She’d seen that matchmaking gleam in Margo’s eyes before, but never aimed at her. Definitely not good if she wanted to keep any semblance of control for the rest of the night.

“Sit with him,” Margo whispered in her ear before turning and tugging Naomi along with her.

Ramsay grinned, clearly hearing her friend’s traitorous instruction. He reached for her elbow to guide her forward, but stopped and pulled his hand away.

Trinity lurched toward the loveseat and sat as far away from everyone as possible.

Ramsay settled close, not quite in the middle but enough that no one else would join them. His gaze rested on her throat before it jumped to meet her eyes. “So, no touching. Sounds like an interesting story.”

More like the only thing interesting about her, and yet the one thing she couldn’t talk about. Even if she could share something about her Spiritu self, her brain seemed to have gone on strike in favor of ogling the strapping god planted two inches away. “It bugs me, is all. Most people make me antsy. I guess…” She rubbed her hand along her thigh. “I guess you slipped in under the radar, and then after, I didn’t have time to think.”

Again his gaze dropped to her neck, and his smile faltered.

She checked her collar and made sure the sides were pulled together, hiding the pendant her adopted father, David, had given her before he died.

“You sure?” Ramsay tilted his head, considering. “I think we should try again. Test the theory.”

Well, if that wasn’t a perfect opportunity offered up on a silver platter. All her life, the only person who’d been able to touch her without impact was Kazan. She’d give anything to try something beyond a simple handshake.

Ramsay leaned in, his arm stretching along the seat back. His facial structure radiated the same power as his body—proud nose, strong jaw covered in sexy stubble, thick eyebrows, one arched a little more than the other. His warm, earthy scent surrounded her, clean with a hint of something exotic. Sandalwood maybe. “Touch me.”

Hard to call it a command the way he said it. More of a dark, sensual dare. One that worked nerve endings she didn’t even know existed. “Where?”

As soon as the question left her mouth his expression shifted, eyelids lowering slightly over stormy silver eyes. “Carte blanche. Lady’s choice.”

Judy Post is Cooking Up Trouble

My dear friend Judy Post has a new book coming out the week before my next release, so there will be lots of celebrating here in Fort Wayne next month. Interestingly enough, each of our releases involves us stepping into new genres for us, respectively. After visiting Judy’s blog recently (see post here) I thought it would be fun to have Judy visit here and pick her brain as well. It’s a lovely brain, really. Full of all sorts of wonderful information. So thank you, Judy, for agreeing to subject yourself to both my questions and my ramblings. LolCoockingupTrouble

COOKING UP TROUBLE (Book 1 in the Mill Pond series, with Judy writing as Judi Lynn) is the first in your new, contemporary romance series. It’s also your first voyage into contemporary romance. What prompted you to deviate from the world of Urban Fantasy?

Honestly?  My agent, the wonderful Lauren Abramo, told me to.  And she knew I didn’t think I could do it, so she gave me a pep talk and nudged me to read a few romances and choose a type I could man up and try to write.   I’ve been writing urban fantasies, and I love them, but the market is crowded.  She wanted me to try a genre with better odds to find a publisher.  I honestly didn’t think I could do it.  I’m not a particularly romantic person, but I’m married to a man who isJ   And Lauren, by the way, is always right.  I sent her the finished romance, and she sold it to Kensington.

While I won’t ask you to choose one genre preference over the other, tell us—what struggles did you perhaps encounter with in writing for the first time in contemporary romance? What did you enjoy about it?

I had a horrible time feeling comfortable with romance when I first started writing COOKING UP TROUBLE.  In urban fantasy, outside forces drive the pace and story.  A kickass heroine ends up going head to head with some horrific threat while trying to stop a villain.  The battles keep escalating until the big, final battle at the end of the book.  It’s one challenge after another.  I love that!  In romance, the story’s driven by two people who are attracted to each other, but a variety of misunderstandings and outside occurrences keep them apart.  The obstacles are more personal, more internal.  A mis-spoken word might derail the budding romance.  I felt like I was balancing a plot line on eggshells.  It felt like nothing was happening.  No one blasted magic or sucked out an enemy’s life energy.  But lots of things are happening beneath the surface, and that’s what I had to concentrate on.  I decided to add humor, and that saved me.

For those reading today who are new to you, please explain if you’re a PLOTTER or PANTSER and give us a glimpse into your process.

Oh, this is a fair question.  I always bug you about thatJ  I’m a plotter, probably obsessive about it.  I belong to a writers’ group, and as far as I know, I’m the ONLY rabid plotter among my friends.  And they all write great stuff, so it’s just me.  I need the security of knowing where the story’s going before I can bring the scenes to life.  My books always start with an idea.  For COOKING UP TROUBLE, I wanted to have a self-sufficient heroine who has to keep rescuing the guy who’s her love interest.  Once I have the idea, I think about the characters who’d work for it.  Tessa runs a farm stand and a bakery.  She works outside a lot.  Ian worked in finance in New York City and moves to Mill Pond to open a resort.  He’s stepping into a foreign world, to him.  I write the first two or three chapters before I do character wheels, because I need to hear my characters and see them in action before they start to come to life for me.  Once I finish the character wheels, it sounds weird, but I divide my book into fourths, and I aim for a turning point at the end of each one—some kind of shift that moves the story in a slightly different direction.  Once I have those, I can just connect the dots, and I plow through plot points—one for each chapter.

How many books do you have planned for your new series?

I’ve turned in the first three, and I just signed a contract for three more.  I could do a couple more—have ideas for them—if the series does well.  I played with romances once when I wrote a bundle of short novellas, EMERALD HILLS.  I really enjoy writing short pieces, but I learned then that I get attached to people who live in small towns and want a HEA for every single one of them.

You recently published a book, chapter by chapter, on your website. Tell us a bit about that. What prompted you to try it? Did you enjoy that process? Will you bundle the entire book and offer it online, or will it stay as is?

That was so much fun!  Out of everything I’ve written, Babet and Prosper are two of my favorite characters.  I’ve used them in lots of novellas that I’ve made into bundles, but I never gave them a book, and they wanted one.  I’ve gotten great feedback on them, too, so I thought I’d put up a chapter a week on my webpage as sort of a thank you to the readers who have hung in there for all of their stories.  Charles Dickens and Arthur Conan Doyle wrote serials in newspapers, so I thought Why not?  It was a little more challenging than I expected it to be.  Since there was a week between each chapter, I felt pressured to make each chapter more gripping than if it was part of a book.  There weren’t many “down” scenes for just contemplation and planning, etc.  And I added an image for every chapter I wrote, so that added to the mix.   I promised to leave all of the chapters up for two weeks, and then I plan to make them into a book to put on Amazon.  I’ll only charge 99 cents, though.  After all, it’s already been read on my webpage.

Anything else you would like to share with our readers today?

Only a big thank you to you and them for sharing your blog with me.   It’s been fun!

Thank you so much for visiting and selflessly sharing your time and experience with us today, Judy. Wishing you all the best with your upcoming release. Celebration time will be here before we know it!
